克里姆林 (Kèlǐmǔlín) is a phonetic transliteration of Russian 'Kreml'' (кремль, 'citadel'), and
宫 (gōng, palace) is added as a semantic suffix. By metonymy,
克里姆林宫 is also used the way English-speakers say 'the Kremlin' to mean the Russian government itself.
