Itō Hirobumi (伊藤博文) negotiated the 1895 Treaty of Shimonoseki (马关条约) with Li Hongzhang after the First Sino-Japanese War, forcing China to cede Taiwan. He was assassinated in 1909 by Korean independence activist An Jung-geun at Harbin railway station.
