The term translates Frederick Winslow Taylor's 'Scientific Management' (1911). Chinese industrialists and translators picked it up rapidly in the early 20th century — figures like Mu Ouchu (穆藕初) introduced Taylorism into China's textile industry in the 1910s. Today the term is also used loosely for 'evidence-based / systematic management' beyond Taylor's narrow original.
