Zhejiang (short name
浙 Zhè) takes its name from the Qiantang River, anciently called
浙江 because of its winding course. Affluent and entrepreneurial, it hosts Alibaba's Hangzhou headquarters, Yiwu's famous wholesale market, and the Wenzhou merchant tradition. Its landscapes — West Lake, the Thousand Island Lake, Putuoshan — are iconic in classical poetry and painting.
