晋见 is formal/literary, used for meeting royalty, heads of state, or other high dignitaries — never an ordinary boss.
晋 here means 'to advance / approach respectfully'. The character is also written
进见, which is the more common modern variant;
晋见 keeps a slightly more classical tone.
