Located in today's Ferghana Valley (Uzbekistan / Tajikistan / Kyrgyzstan), Dayuan was a Hellenistic-influenced state on the early Silk Road. Han Wudi's two military expeditions to Dayuan (104-101 BCE), launched to seize the famous 'blood-sweating' Ferghana horses (
汗血宝马), are recorded by Sima Qian in the 《
史记·
大宛列传》.
