甲骨文 (literally 'shell-bone script') was scratched onto turtle plastrons and ox scapulae during Shang divination rituals. Rediscovered in 1899 near Anyang, it pushed confirmed Chinese writing back to c. 1200 BCE.
usage
The tech company Oracle took 甲骨文 as its Chinese name because 'oracle' and the oracle-bone writing system share the divination connection — one of the cleverest corporate name choices in Chinese.
