Tips

history
His 1689 尼布楚条约 with Russia, the Treaty of Nerchinsk, was China's first formal treaty with a Western power. Its binding text was in Latin, drafted through two Jesuit interpreters, and no official Chinese version existed for about two centuries.
culture
The 康熙字典 (1716) filed its 47,000-odd characters under 214 radicals, an order dictionaries and Unicode still follow. Taiwan's talk show 康熙来了 only borrowed the name: 康 and 熙 come from its hosts 蔡康永 and 徐熙娣.
