history

银监会 was spun out of the PBoC in 2003 to supervise banks. In 2018 it merged with the insurance regulator 保监会 to form the 银保监会 (CBIRC), then in 2023 was folded into the new 国家金融监督管理总局 (NFRA). The term 银监会 still appears constantly in pre-2018 finance reporting.
